About the project

One of Germany’s most renowned young photographers Andreas Mühe was a lecturer at Berlin’s Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie for one year. Using a generous format and magazine-style layout, the exhibition catalog »Märkisches Viertel«, published by seltmann+söhne, presents the creative results of a seminar on the topic held by Mühe in collaboration with Sebastian Treytnar.

The lookbook’s monochrome cover features a combination of strong typography and multi-sized black squares suggestive of the layout of the apartment blocks that form Märkisches Viertel and of a yet-to-be unveiled picture gallery. Viewers need to open the catalogue to enter the seminar participants’ world of color photography.
Playing with various picture formats, the lookbook’s visual dramaturgy reflects the fresh glance and bold perspective of the works, reminding those turning the pages always to expect the unexpected.
