About the project

“Theatre is important. ... Theatre is a constantly changing project, a project that asks questions, that questions. Everything changes. Nothing changes. Everything remains new.” Julien Chavaz starts a new era of the Theater Magdeburg ↗ as artistic director with new structures and formats.

Theater Magdeburg’s posters support this path of constantly reinventing itself. At the same time, we wanted to create a format that was diverse, visually impactful, and at the same time, gave enough space to the respective productions. Accordingly, we looked for a simple, easy-to-use formula and found it in bold illustrative elements that are modular, scalable, and transferable.

Catchy illustrations, many colours, and logo variations around the GT Ultra font family of the independent Swiss type foundry Grilli Type ↗ make Theater Magdeburg look entertaining yet functional. The posters appeal equally to all age groups through the absurd, significant, imaginative motifs and contrast highly with Magdeburg’s urban environment.
